Patterson Center Condition Assessment and Treatment Plan
The Department of Planning (MDP) is issuing this Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking a firm to develop a condition assessment and treatment plan for the Patterson Center, located on the grounds of Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum in St. Leonard, Maryland. The Patterson Center consists of 6 buildings totaling 14,647 square feet, a large pool, and manicured lawns and gardens.
The Patterson Center, located on the grounds of Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, is a complex of 6 buildings totaling 14,647 square feet, a large pool, and manicured lawns and gardens (see Attachment F for more information). The fully furnished Patterson House and its associated outbuildings were designed by Gertrude Sawyer. This pristine Colonial Revival country house complex dates to the 1930s and retains a high level of integrity as a master work of an important female American architect. Complementing Sawyer's work are gardens and grounds designed by landscape architect Rose Greely, recognized by the National Park Service as a "Pioneer of American Landscape Design." Greely was one of the first two graduates of the Cambridge School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture in 1919, and the first licensed woman architect in Washington, D.C.
