In the nineteenth century railway and steamship companies developed resorts in the mountains, around the bay and on the Eastern Shore. Amusement parks and resorts, horse racing, early sporting enterprises and artists are remembered and documented by markers. Take an "on-line tour" of a sample of markers chosen to reflect geographic range and variety. Use the database search on the "Explore the Historical Markers" page to locate other similar markers and to explore this theme in more depth.
