Are you concerned about a project in your community that may impact historic or archaeological
resources? Federal, state, and certain local laws afford varying levels of protection to our
cultural heritage. Public input about these significant places is vital to guiding project
planning and the decision-making process.
If the project has state or federal funding, permitting, licensing, or other agency involvement,
the law requires the involved agency develop measures to avoid, reduce or mitigate any harm
to historic and archaeological resources. This historic preservation review process is commonly
called "Section 106." MHT review helps ensure agency compliance with the laws and promotes the
appropriate stewardship of Maryland's heritage resources.
MHT's participation in project review is solely limited to those projects where there is state or
federal agency involvement. You can Search
the Compliance Log to see if a project has been submitted to MHT for review. Some projects
may be subject to review or controls under local jurisdictions. Contact the Project Review and
