Governor's Consulting Committee on the National Register of Historic Places

A color photograph of a grand two-story Queen Anne Victorian house. It features a grey clapboard exterior with teal and maroon trim, a wraparound porch, a prominent three-story corner turret with a conical roof, and a large brick chimney on the side.

This Committee was created in 1967 after the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 gave states new responsibilities. Under that law, the State must nominate historic places for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Before those nominations go to the National Park Service, they must be reviewed by this Consulting Committee.

Members are appointed by the Governor and serve four-year terms.
