Maryland Archeology Month Events

Discovering Archaeology Day | April 11 | Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum

A free day of interactive learning and fun with archaeologists from across the region, including hands-on activities for kids, archaeological site tours, exhibits, games, giveaways, and cool crafts.

Hands-On Archaeology | April 17 & 18 | 9:00 to 11:30 AM | 12:30 to 3:00 PM | $4 - 5 / session | Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum

See what it is like to be an archaeologist and excavate an actual site. You can help dig and screen for artifacts in the field or wash objects with archaeologists from the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Lab. It’s a fun way for the whole family to learn about the past. The program runs in two sessions - morning and afternoon.

Spring Symposium | April 18 | 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM | 100 Community Pl, Crownsville

The Archeological Society of Maryland Spring Symposium presents speakers on diverse, current, topics of Maryland and Maryland-related archeology. For more details and the agenda, visit the Archeological Society of Maryland website.

Scouts BSA Archaeology Merit Badge Workshop

This event is free and open to currently registered scouts under the Scouts BSA program. A parent or guardian must accompany the scout for the duration of the program. Light refreshments will be provided at both the lecture and fieldwork days. 

April 25, 2026 | Lecture Day | 100 Community Pl, Crownsville 

On the lecture day, scouts will participate in discussions and activities to complete many of the Archaeology Merit Badge requirements. This will include presentations from archaeologists, a tour of the archaeology lab, an experimental archaeology activity, and more. 

May 2 & 3, 2026 | Fieldwork | Fort Frederick State Park, Big Pool

During the fieldwork day, Scouts will conduct excavation work and screen for artifacts at Fort Frederick State Park. Scouts must attend the lecture day to attend the fieldwork day.

MHT Roadshow

Come learn about MHT's role in historic preservation and architectural research, easement properties, the tax incentive program, cultural landscapes and heritage, tourism, and more.
